In the 1990s, there was a trend in India to advance audio-visual, moving images, and a developing field, which brought me closer to the viewfinder. I began at a time when the electronic medium was in its infancy, and antennae were ubiquitous structures on rooftops.
For me, it’s been over three decades now as a Director of Photography, documentary filmmaker, and YouTuber. My YouTube channel, UNBOUND INDIA, has evolved with all the abstractions as well as technological advancements—from satellite and mobile TV to digitalization and internet-driven content. These days, from capturing live content for fictional stories, reality TV shows to current affairs and news channels, I have taken on all kinds of assignments in this rapidly changing electronic medium. Today, I can say that the confidence I have gained in my professional life has come from my extensive experience and the skills I possess to work with the latest equipment.
Being a freelance documentary filmmaker requires a deep understanding of the subject, and if the subject is related to history, the responsibility increases even more. Exploring India’s history and presenting it to the people in an accessible manner is challenging; Unbound India is continually striving to do just that.
