Education News: 22 thousand textbooks will be prepared in 22 regional languages ​​of the country. According to the Union Education Ministry, ‘ASMIT’ has been started for this in collaboration with the Indian Language Committee under the leadership of UGC. The aim of ASMIT is to prepare 22000 books in 22 scheduled languages ​​in the next five years. Along with this, a comprehensive initiative has also been taken to create a huge repository of multilingual dictionaries. At the same time, measures for instant translation, the facility of building a technical framework to enhance instant translation capabilities in Indian languages ​​​​is also being provided. 

Important projects launched 

Union Education Secretary K. Sanjay Murthy launched these three important projects. These projects are ASMITA (Promotion of study material in Indian languages ​​through translation and academic writing), Multilingual Dictionary and Instant Translation Measures. According to the Union Education Secretary, technology will play a major role in shaping all these projects, and NETF and BBS will have a very big role in this.

The Ministry of Education organised an important workshop attended by over 150 vice-chancellors from across the country. The vice-chancellors were divided into 12 brainstorming sessions, each dedicated to planning and developing textbooks in 12 regional languages.

The initial focus languages ​​included Punjabi, Hindi, Sanskrit, Bengali, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Odia. The groups were chaired by the respective Vice Chancellors of the nodal universities and their deliberations yielded valuable results.

The discussions included defining the creation of new textbooks in Indian languages, establishing standard terminology in 22 Indian languages ​​for books and identifying possible improvements for current textbooks, emphasizing Indian Knowledge System (IKS) as one of the components, combining practical and theoretical knowledge. Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar inaugurated this one-day workshop for Vice Chancellors on writing textbooks in Indian languages ​​for higher education in New Delhi. The workshop was jointly organized by University Grants Commission (UGC) and Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS).
