Unable to afford books at the only shop, laborer brings child’s books, collector says – suspend school’s recognition

Bhind A young laborer residing in the Halwai Khan area of the city, whose child studies in Class 2, reached Collector Sanjeev Shrivastav’s office on Monday afternoon with his child’s books. He showed the books and their receipt, stating that he bought them for Rs. 2,130. Following this, Collector Sanjeev Shrivastav instructed the District Education Officer (DEO) to suspend the recognition of the respective school.

Imdad Ahmad, a resident of Halwai Khan, explained that he works as a laborer in a furniture shop. The set of books provided by the young man was for his child studying in a private school in the neighborhood. The school management had issued a voucher naming Suvidha Book Store to purchase the books, but they were not available at any other shop when he checked.

When purchased from this operational shop in the book market, the shopkeeper demanded Rs. 2130. When I tried to negotiate for a fair price, the shopkeeper outright refused. Not only that, he also demanded Rs. 500 extra for copies. Due to not having enough money, I couldn’t buy the copies. Interestingly, none of these books included any NCERT books.

After hearing the youth’s complaint, Collector Shrivastav called DEO Vyomesh Sharma. He directed that the recognition of Sanidhya Vidya Niketan School, which forces students to buy books at higher prices from a single shop, be immediately suspended. It should be noted that a few days ago, the recognition of Saint Michael School was also suspended for similar reasons.
